PAW Kick-Off & Opening Talk: The Need for Sustainable Leadership in Academia

For this year’s PAW Kick-Off, the PAW organizers have teamed up with SciLead! During our Kick-off Event, the organizers will present the idea behind the Postdoc Appreciation Week, share highlights from the event program and kick-start the week’s social media campaign!

As science managers supporting postdocs, they are acutely aware that postdocs face a variety of challenges. The Postdoc Appreciation Week is a step to give postdocs in Germany more visibility and a platform for events that address the different needs of postdocs. In our Kick-Off, we want to address one of these central needs – better leadership and guidance for and by postdocs.

The Need for Sustainable Leadership in Academia, Opening Talk by SciLead

Academia is a world of uncertainty – terminated positions, publish or perish, and science in itself can be challenging to navigate. Therefore, the role of the group leader comes with special responsibilities. But let’s be honest – would you feel prepared to tackle this role?

Driven by their own experience as scientists in various fields of academia, the SciLead team wanted to know how researchers in academia feel about leadership and how they wanted to learn about it. What started with a small survey turned out to give them enough data to write and publish a paper and they would love to discuss it with you.

We are looking forward to an interactive Kick-Off!
