Celebrating 5 Years of Postdoc Appreciation Week Germany A Journey of Collaboration, Growth, and Gratitude

From a single tweet in April/May 2022 that sparked the collaboration between Leibniz Universität Hannover and the Munich Postdoc Network, to the first PAW organised in just four months—with over 60 events, widespread resonance, and 30+ organisations joining—this journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

As we look back, the images tell our story:
📜 The message that started it all—a testament to the power of connection.
📅 The timeline and future wishes—charting our growth and the path ahead.
👥 The coordinators through the years—the dedicated faces behind the scenes.
🚀 Kick-off events—highlighting topics that matter to the postdoc community.
📢 Social media campaigns (only a few examples…)—amplifying the voice and goals of PAW and postdocs everywhere.
🙌 The PAW supporters—without whom this journey would not have been possible.
🎂 The cake and save the date for 2027—a sweet reminder of the milestones we’ve celebrated together.

From lessons learned in 2023 to using event management tools in 2024, and highlighting the profile of PAW supporters (postdocs, coordinators, and networks) in 2025, we’ve continuously evolved. Now, in 2026, we reflect on five incredible years. Our wishes for the future? To maintain this support, spread the word, increase engagement from group leaders and professors and welcome even more countries into this growing community.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all postdocs for their invaluable contributions to research and beyond, and to our supporters for promoting the visibility of postdocs’ hard work and facilitating meaningful discussions.

PAW 2026 What Postdocs Said!
One of the aims of this week is to bring some of the pressing issues that postdocs face to the light. Therefore we collected feedback after the week. Here you can see some of the responses:

Very informative and diverse presentations, a lot of time for questions and discussions, good presenters and topics!

More in-person events would have been nice. Holding a lot online makes it accessible but also: we spend so much time on our screens and in meetings that a change would be nice.

helpful and practical

This week serves as a reminder that you are not alone while navigating this very complicated career path.

The PAW made me feel really appreciated, it is like the organizers tried to equip us with various different weapons for the battle we are fighting.

It is a very useful and informative event for researchers and scientist.
